As temperatures rise, so does the risk of dehydration and sun-related illnesses—especially in children. At After Hours Pediatrics Urgent Care, we want your family to enjoy the summer safely. Here are simple ways to keep kids hydrated and protected.

Hydration Is Key

Children are more prone to dehydration because their bodies don’t cool as efficiently. Encourage them to drink water regularly—even if they don’t feel thirsty.

Tips:

  • Pack a reusable water bottle when heading outdoors.
  • Offer hydrating snacks like watermelon, cucumber, and oranges.
  • Avoid sugary drinks and caffeine.

Sun Safety Basics

Kids’ skin is especially sensitive to UV rays. Without protection, sunburn can happen quickly.

Tips:

  • Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen 15 minutes before going outside and reapply every 2 hours.
  • Use hats, sunglasses, and UV-protective clothing.
  • Stay in the shade between 10 AM and 4 PM when the sun is strongest.

When to Seek Help

If your child shows signs of dehydration—dry mouth, fatigue, dizziness—or suffers a sunburn with blisters or fever, visit any of our 8 pediatric urgent care centers across Florida — open evenings, weekends, and holidays to serve you.

Be Social

From my initial phone calling asking questions before I showed up.. to the excellent service by every person working .. I could not express how grateful I am to have found this place. I have told all my friends with kids about this place and have saved this contact in my phone in case needed in the future. Exceptional cleanliness, most friendly staff. Totally made my 2.5 old feel comfortable in a doctor office setting which is usually scary. Thank you!
